Here you’ll find some first-class academic writing that I’ve completed during my university studies
“It’s Difficult to Take These Artists Seriously”: Exploring Attitudes Towards Cursive Singing and Gender
Independent Research Project
A project combining my love for social media and pop culture with my favourite branch of linguistics, sociolinguistics, which looks at the intersections of language and our society, and how they influence each other.
My final piece written for university, three years of hard work culminating in a piece that I am very proud of. It is also currently in the process of being reviewed for publication in JoULAB, an academic journal that publishes the highest quality undergraduate linguistics theses, which will hopefully result in approval (and therefore myself as a published academic) in 2024.
A light-hearted read, written in academic style but still capturing the humour that inevitably follows a dissertation written about a social media trend.
A Critical Discourse Analysis into the Presentation of Trans People and Anti-Trans Legislation in the U.S. on Instagram
Language, Image, Media essay
Academic work that was completed for my 'Language, Image and Media' module. This piece looks at how the same news story is reported by media outlets on both the left and right sides of the political spectrum to appeal to their respective audiences, focusing on how the language is adapted for this purpose.
This is a political, thought-provoking piece, exploring how dangerous echo-chambers can be in fostering hive-mind communities.
I tailored my assignment to analyse Instagram media posts, as this aligns directly with my own interest in social media copy.
It demonstrates both my high-level grasp of the English language, as well as my ability to write in a more formal, academic tone.
